The country has embarked upon a growth that would be inclusive, a progress that would be participative and development that would encompass every section of society. The growth of micro and small enterprises has been the essential for ‘Inclusive Growth’ for any economy. Mainstreaming these enterprises will not only help in improving the quality of lives of these entrepreneurs but also sub serve the national objective by contributing substantially to both Capital formation and creation of employment opportunities in the economy.
SIDBI, as the Apex Development Bank for the sector, realizing the need for an alternate channel for Bank linkage had started its MCS experiment in mid-nintees. After successful pilot phase, SIDBI initiated capacity building of the players who showed potential to convert themselves in to viable Micro Finance Institutions. Today, there is a reasonable penetration of MFIs to reach the unreached with financial and non-financial services. The MFIs principally act as intermediaries for Banks and Financial Institutions by replacing traditional brick and mortar structures with informal service delivery mechanisms. Thus, there is a need for maintaining highest level of Governance, transparency and clearly defined organizational structures. Thus, assessment of these MFIs would necessitate a different mindset, framework and approaches. With increasing thrust to make the banking services available to the unbanked by reaching the hitherto unreached, the capacity building of MFIs and their consequent funding assumes significance.
In this backdrop, as the assessment and appraisal of MFIs’ credit proposals are different from normal project finance, it is imperative to enhance our understanding about the broad aspects of microfinance spectrum, their business models & approaches and also to learn different methodologies of appraising MFIs. With this objective, the presentation & self learning materials in this section have been provided to enhance our appraisal dexterity.

Soft skills, including interpersonal communication and conflict resolutions, are becoming increasingly important at the workplace. Organizations are very concerned about building teams that would work with spirit of Team work with effective communication and inter-personal skills along with a problem solving attitude of team members who need to be endowed with an ability to manage time. Flexibility within groups, understanding the group dynamics and understanding of ‘human transactions’ are key elements of developing successful teams. Though many of the elements of soft skills are to be practised for perfection, it is important to know the building blocks of the structure to understand the edifice.

With this objective, the Bank has been organizing Executive Development Programs for its middle / senior management level officers at Bank's Training Institute 'SITI'. Some of the study materials shared by various faculties during some of these programs are included in this section for wider dissemination.

आस्तियों का निर्माण करने के क्रम में ऋण प्रक्रिया की शुरूआत मामले की मूल्यांकन से प्रारंभ होता है। मूल्यांकन प्रक्रिया वास्तव में उधारकर्ता के चयन के समय उन्हें आवेदन देते समय से ही शुरू हो जाता है। इस भाग के प्रस्तुतीकरण मैटेरियलों में इस पूरे प्रक्रिया के विवरण के साथ-साथ सैद्धांतिक पहलुओं की जानकारी देते हुए कतिपय व्यवहारिक सूचनाओं का समावेश किया गया है। ये मैटेरियल सिटी में आयोजित किए जाने वाले विभिन्न ऋण मूल्यांकन प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रमों में आतंरिक संकाय-सदस्यों द्वारा प्रदान किए जाते हैं। 

The credit process leading to building up the asset side starts with the appraisal process. The Appraisal process indeed starts even before the issue of Application with the selection of borrower. The process details including the theoretical aspects as also certain practical inputs have been captured in the presentation materials incorporated in the section. These presentation materials are as imparted by the internal faculties during various credit appraisal training programs conducted at SITI.

एमएसएमई क्षेत्र में ऋण प्रवाह बढ़ाना बैंक के लिए जितना महत्वपूर्ण कार्य है उतना ही तथा उससे शायद कहीं ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण है आस्तियों की गुणवत्ता बढ़ाना। अतएव, आस्तियों का अनुवर्तन, पर्यवेक्षण एवं निगरानी करना मंजूरी पश्चात् प्रक्रिया का अभिन्न हिस्सा है। अनुवर्तन एवं निगरानी आवेदन के प्राप्त होने की तिथि से शुरू होता है और पूर्ण चुकौती के साथ खाते की पूर्ण बंदी तक चलता रहता है।    

Objective of the Bank is not only to increase the credit flow to MSME sector but also to maintain the asset quality. In this regard, Follow ups and Monitoring is an integral part of post sanction process. The follow up & monitoring begins from the date of receipt of application to ultimate closure of accounts with complete recovery. This section includes presentation materials shared by the in-house faculties for different training programs at SITI.
